The 1970s proved to be the Golden Years of Blaxploitation ("black exploitation") films, specifically geared to African American audiences who were starving for its own cinema genre variation. While there was an array of different opinions about blaxploitation films, many of these films gave a resounding cinematic voice and platform for numerous filmmakers, actors, directors, and producers. It also gave broader African American audiences an opportunity to feel good about "black films they could enjoy and support." Now fifty years later, TBAAL will screen six blaxploitation films in a two-part series, fall and spring, as an historical reverence to the film artists who were involved in this cinematic, groundbreaking journey.
